Body Composition Measurements

Weight is a general and simple way to monitor progression on a diet but it is not always the best. Weight is a measurement of everything that you put on the scale, fat, lean body mass, body water, clothes, etc. Because of this weight measurements are not the best way to follow progress. This is why it is important to follow your fat loss as well.

At Carolina Medical Weight Management, PA we use a mechanism of electrical impedance to determine body composition. It is quite accurate but occasional variations occur especially in situations of major changes in hydration.

The Body Composition Analysis reports a large amount of information such as:
Percent Body Fat
Percent Lean Body Mass
Body Mass Index
Basal Metabolic Rate
Hydration status

All of this information is helpful in following your progress and planning the next step of care. It can show if you have appropriate loss (fat tissue and not muscle) to allow adjustment of the diet and your excercise pattern if needed. It should be done on average one time every two months.
